By slowing down and standing still, we allow ourselves to move forward. We start to be able to regulate our Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) which is the part of the body that brings us back to a calm state after a stressful event. Chronic stress prevents the PNS from functioning properly. By maintaining a healthy PNS, we allow ourselves the grace to be in a position of strength, even when we receive bad news, or are put under a sudden tight deadline at work. Maintaining practices that lead to a less stressful life means that we are much less likely to react with a panic reaction when a stressor enters our lives.
I discuss the 15-minute rule where I invite you to take just 15 minutes out of your day to meditate. Or, take 15 minutes a day to start and progress a project that is important to you.
